Story Progress So Far!

The Fallen Island (Chapters 13/13 - COMPLETE!)

mrpennstate asked: you should work on the body ratios, your drawing has potential but without correct ratios it looks silly and awkward! each body should be about 5.5-7 heads tall; shoulders should be about 4 heads wide for men and 3 for women; and hips 3 for men and 4 for women! good luck!

Heh, yeah. I’ve been looking back at my drawing every time I see it on here or deviantart, and it looks awkward. It was my first time drawing my main character in armor, so I’ll definitely improve when I do another drawing with that armor.

Yeah! More art!
So since I got my sketchbook back last weekend, and there was an event/contest thing for a chat on dA I’ve been in for 4+ years, I decided to draw my main character/namesake Silver in armor.

Personal Game Hopes; Battlefield 4

Before I say ANYTHING, I want to state that I know nothing beyond what’s been released as of today (April 10th, 2013), so if anyone comes across this later on, be wary of when this was made. This is not a “I want this, and this, and this” hopeful-post. I’m not greedy, and I realize certain things are not possible or easy for a shooter game like Battlefield. I’ll start out with a little bit of looking back with what was lacking in BF3, though.

What BF3 was lacking;

The title of this section sounds negative, but I loved BF3 and all the BF games I’ve played. Battlefield takes the idea of a shooter, tosses in vehicles (both land and air), locks strategy in the game types, mixes in realism that’s still fun to play with, and also makes an unlocking system that makes sense. However, I have a few complaints with what BF3 held back on.

1: Jets

I may end up sounding pretty biased about this because Ace Combat was one of my first game series beside Pokemon and Armored Core I played first, but I was beyond bored with the aircraft choices they threw in. Don’t get me wrong, the Su-35E and F/A-18 are amazing aircraft, but the second I saw the F-35 in the Gulf of Oman map, my heart sank. DICE chose the F-35 over the F-22— the symbol of US air superiority? I understand the F-22, because it’s a symbol of air superiority, would be “overpowered”, but come on. The F-35 has been GROUNDED because they were horribly built. From an engineering stand-point, the F-35 is inferior in all but total roles in can handle to the F-22. Jets in BF3 were not meant to be air-to-ground in Conquest matches. Why not make an aircraft that can handle ONLY air-to-air well? And as for Rush, the choices bored me a little more than Conquest choices. The A-10 is a badass attacker aircraft, but unlike in the Gulf of Oman map, there’s no other aircraft choice— ever. Why not the F-117? Why not the Su-24 for Russians? SOMETHING more than these wide-winged and clunky relics. You know how awesome it’d be to fly a Stealth Fighter in from behind an enemy base and bomb the crap out of them? I’ll tell you— it’d be glorious!

2: No anti-trolling possibilities

Anyone that’s flown in a jet, or been in a team that has no focus, or have been hit by a C4’d jeep while in a tank-on-tank battle, knows what I’m talking about. Jet ramming is my MAJOR concern, but your team damaging/destroying your own vehicles is unacceptable. I could care less about jeeps, but tanks? Jets? Helicopters? These can all be game-changing vehicles— especially choppers. Jet ramming is the most unacceptable in my opinion because it’s the hardest to stop and the easiest to do. Somehow, DICE’s gaming engine says “When a jet hits another aircraft in any way, both vehicles explode violently”. This means someone can ram a pre-occupied helicopter (or use ECM to cloak their radar signal) and take out something that’s devastating their team with no trouble. Thing is, there are no points awarded to either now-dead player. Both (or all if a transport chopper is hit) players now have a death on their scoreboard and have lost a jet and whatever-was-hit. No skill required; Help out your team today! No. God, dammit, no! That’s unacceptable! Now, regarding C4ing jeeps, it’s not an unheard of tactic in real war, and in-game, it comes with a few difficulties; first, you have to come in unnoticed. Second, you can’t take a single hit from anything that would hit the C4. Third, you have to get out and click the trigger when the explosion would be far enough away for you not to die. The only real problem with that tactic is that in a video game— where people want to have fun— that pisses the kamikaze’d person off.

Where did BF3 go right?

My biggest “oh fuck yes” to BF3 was the fact that teamwork was rewarded and being an idiot was not. “Quick scoping” does not work, as it shouldn’t. If you tea-bag, your dog-tags are getting taken. If you camp, you’re going to get fucked by the RPG that blows up the wall at your back. This game forces teamwork in order to win, and I think that’s necessary to do well in a game with a set team. Free-for-all gametypes are the only time where I say teamwork will get you killed, for obvious reasons. Vehicles were yet another refreshing aspects to a shooter game. Sure, Halo has vehicles, but they can easily be toyed with by the physics and concussive properties of certain weapons. However, tanks are near-impossible to knock off their balance unless some weird glitch occurred. Jeeps are the only exception, but they are relatively light in reality. BF provides more than just a run-and-gun game when they throw in vehicles.

Anyways! I should stop and get to BF4 speculations/hopes. This will not include graphics, dog-tags, or camos. I don’t care about those, really.

1: New/More vehicles

Like I said earlier, more jets would be awesome, but I bounced an idea off a few friends yesterday, and formulated this;

For the jets, you start out with 2 fighters per side to choose from and 2 attackers for Rush. However, when you unlock Service Stars 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 (maybe even just every 5 up until a certain point), you unlock a new aircraft for each side. Instead of tossing a nice looking jet at you and saying “here’s a cool vehicle with the same/similar properties as the one your enemy is using”, there would be benefits to getting a new aircraft, like stat differences. This could be represented like how Ace Combat does it, and has bars going horizontally to represent things like armor, mobility, stability, speed, acceleration, etc. This system is purely optional if they put in the F-22 at all in this game. I absolutely love the F-22 and its badassery.

New tanks and choppers would be nice, but jets are the most lacking area as far as vehicles go in BF3.

2: New Game Mechanics

In the gameplay debut, we see things like the second scope in the side of the gun so a gun can be long-mid and mid-short range without having to pick up someone else’s gun or needing a pistol to counter-balance that. I would also quite enjoy a hijacking-type mechanic that engineers can do. Say there’s a tank that hasn’t noticed you, and you have the blow torch as an engineer. You would be able to crawl on the hatch of the tank, open the hatch, kill the driver/gunners, and get in. The balancing aspect would be that after that, anyone could get in because the hatch would be gone, and the pilot could also be shot out/met with a well-tossed grenade. That way it’d still implement the torch, but not have the thought of “how is blow-torching this one spot destroying the tank?”. Another thing with tanks would be that certain explosives would damage tank-treads, requiring for external repairs, even if the vehicle isn’t disabled.

3: Return of Tracers

Look, I understand we have lock-on weapons in the military, but they are abused so much in BF3. BF:BC2 had a good system. You could manual-aim, or you could tracer the vehicle so anyone could hit it with a lock-on missile. SOFLAM’s just get extremely irritating after a while, and as much as I think “If it’s in the game, so stop complaining”, Stingers/Iglas had a major overpowered buff when Armored Kill came out.

Anyways, those are my major hopes/speculations for BF4. I hope it’s an improvement to an already good game series, and I hope there’s less bitching and whining like there was in BF3 >_>

Just a thought…

I think I may do something similar to my mini-rants about games, but with opinions of mine that would spark some interesting discussion. I won’t try to be offensive, but as a disclaimer, they may strike a nerve the wrong way with some people.
